ox in the mire

late last night, we started getting weather reports that the winds would be back tonight.  the scary thing about that is all the piles of debris in people's yards getting blown around by the wind creates a very dangerous situation.  i was very surprised to find out at our 9:00 a.m. sacrament meeting that the rest of church would be canceled and that wards and stakes all over davis county were canceling as well so that all able-bodied men could help the city remove debris to the landfill.

jake, craig, isaac and sam went out with the truck and helped in the stake.  soon, thousands of trucks were full and headed for the landfill, only to find that the line to dump was hours and miles long.  here's the landfill after a new section was opened:

cars full of debris for as far as the eye can see.  a smart person decided to have alternate dumping locations where loads could be consolidated into large dump trucks, so soon there was a huge line down from the benches leading to the high school.  jake took some pictures of the strange site at bountiful high:

president eyring even put his work clothes on and took a load to the landfill with his son.  my boys were great helpers too.

it was a strange sunday.  craig thought it was weird when he saw president eggett of our stake presidency walking through the halls of the church wearing jeans on a sunday morning with a walkie-talkie.  it was a great sight seeing so many people helping each other.  i missed elder parry and elder hamilton so much today because i know that they would have loved serving alongside their b-town brethren.

hopefully we won't lost power tonight again.  stay tuned.
