today was kind of a work day. it was the first day since the storm that i really saw people venture out of their house much. lots of cars were on the roads, you could hear chainsaws around the neighborhood. one neighbor called me to say they had one of my wreaths and could see another missing wreath on our roof. craig spent most of the day propping up the fence, rehanging all our christmas lights and helping me put up the wreaths. by the end of the day, i felt we were back on track. the insurance company will have to come look at our fence tomorrow and we will have to address the major damage sometime, but for now the dogs can't get out.
we were so happy to have jake come home this morning. he had a fabulous time in washington, d.c. and williamsburg, virginia. he did come home quite tired though. after a few chores around the house, he headed to his beloved high school to help deck the halls and cheer on the basketball team. apparently, we were beating one of the best schools in the state by one with a minute left when the power went out again.
caroline was delighted (not) to have a debate tournament in northridge. she was home in the afternoon, unhappy again with her speech and debate skills. i think it's great she can just rule this out as a talent now and not worry that she's missed her calling in life. she has many talents, debate is probably not one of them.
craig and i had a yummy thai dinner with friends before we had to chaperone a house full of jr. high and high school kids. it's good to have the house full, i know i'll miss it someday. i just hate it when they plan hide-and-seek.
